Stand Out With Web Graphics

Stand Out With Graphics

“There are three responses to a piece of design – yes, no, and WOW! Wow is the one to aim for.”
Milton Glaser

There are three elements that entrepreneurs who are building a brand for their company, product or service and using graphics should be aware of; they are quality, consistency, and imagery.

Quality:  As the quote by Milton Glaser states, when people see your graphics, they're liking to have three different responses.  And while beauty is in the eye of the beholder, having nice looking quality graphics will ensure you get noticed and stand out.  Bad graphics will easily turn people off, while those that are pleasing to the eye garner a more satisfied crowd.

Consistency:  Consistency is very important when building a brand. You want to use images, colors, and a brand mark that makes you easily identifiable.  Using the same font style, colors, and brand mark or logo helps your audience get to know you and identify your product or service upon seeing a graphic you've designed.

Imagery:  The images you use should speak to your personality, but more importantly, they should also send a message as to what your company represents.  The images you use should support and not overpower or detract from your business, product or service.

Below you'll find a list of resources that will help you create web graphics that support your brand, message, products or service.

Picmonkey

Picmonkey website homepage

PicMonkey is my favorite place on the web for editing photos and creating graphics.  The tools inside of Picmonkey allow you to easily alter photos to make it look like you're a pro.  And not only that, you'll find a large assortment of fonts, effects, and creative elements that can be added to your photos or start from scratch and create a custom graphic.

Picmonkey is always updating their platform to add new design features and elements, effects, templates and now has an app.  You'll find helpful video and written tutorials on their website.  Picmonkey a free service, but with the free service you're subject to being distracted by ads and don't have access to all of their design features.  I suggest the paid or what's called royal service, which allows you full access to all of their features and design elements.

Canva

Canva is the non-designers best friend! Inside of Canva you'll find templates for a large assortment of design projects.  There are templates that you can customize for the most popular social media platforms.  You'll find templates for making business cards, ecovers, PowerPoint and Keynote presentations, posters, blogs, flyers, banners, resumes and an assortment of printables.

Canva is easy to use and there are helpful design tutorials that'll teach you about basic design elements such as how to pair fonts, colors theory, composition and much more.

Canva is available online and as an app.  It's free to use, but you also have the option to upgrade to a paid account that allows more features. You can kick things off with a free 30-day trial to see how well you like it.  I've found that the free service more than accommodates my design needs.
